Cupcakes have been trendy for a long while now, and why shouldn’t they be? They’re delicious little slices of cake. They deserve all the praise they get. While preparing to make some for a friend’s birthday, I started seeing cupcake wraps everywhere. These aren’t cupcake liners or tins, they’re a second layer that make cupcakes look even more precious and special than before. I’m not saying they’re great for post-soccer game snacks or picnics, but when cupcakes need to be elevated just a little – these are great. Unfortunately they also average about $1 each. So I decided to make some, and see if I could bring the cost down a smidge. My version only cost about $.10 a piece…

It turns out this was one craft project where I wasn’t in over my head! Here are the steps to make your own cupcake wraps:

Supplies

10 or 12 inch Doilies (you’ll get about 2 wraps per doily)

Scissors

Muffin cup

Glue stick (or flour and water paste, if you prefer)

1. Make a straight cut in the muffin cup to the circular base, then cut around it, leaving the side as one long piece. This is your template.
2. Lay the template along the edge of the doily,and cut the lace edge away from the plain circular inside, to 1/2 an inch longer than your template.
3. Put a little glue at one end of the doily strip, and attach it to the other end, creating a circle.
4. Let dry, then place finished, cooled cupcakes inside for a pretty display!
