Yesterday our friends held their first annual “guac-off”, a gucamole competition. We had 4 entries and 4 judges, and a lot of fun.

They did a blind taste test. They listened to “Eye of the Tiger” while they tasted, deliberated, went back for a second opinion, and rated our entries. We had a a neutral party tabulate the results.

The entries were all different–Michelle’s had curry and a nice smokiness, and was smooth and creamy. Campbell’s was a mellow mix with tomatillo and lemon (not lime, as this judge’s notes suggest) and Brie’s had gorgeous avocado chunks and a nice mix of cilantro and red onion. Yum.

Shockingly, I won! I believe it was small red pepper, one of our test varieties picked right before the contest, that did it. Or it was sheer luck. I will hold the trophy (a truly magnificent bald eagle pedestal) for one year, then will return to defend my title.
