Visited B&B at their house in Pittsburgh, met their newest tenants. I only took a point-and-shoot camera for the weekend. So I plopped the camera right down on the ground (looking carefully so it didn’t land in any chicken-made fertilizer) and got a couple of good shots before dinner. We were only in the city for a full day. Next time I hope to meet up with Doug Oster!
I’ve been trying to photograph these tomatoes FOR DAYS. They are for a feature in our 2012 issue…the rain hasn’t been kind to the plants, and without sun, things aren’t getting so ripe on the vine. The solution: take some harvested shots.
It’s the end of the work day, I’m home from the office and doing a shoot in my kitchen. I have a tripod and cable release, to reduce camera shake on this overcast dark day. And yes, I’m using one of my cutting boards as a reflector card. This is my happy place.
It’s tomato tasting time again! This afternoon the Organic Gardening team met up to sample tomatoes, and rate them. Doug had trial varieties and other tomatoes mixed together. (You may remember in last year’s blind taste test he put a grocery store tomato into the mix and everyone rated that the lowest.) I can’t wait to hear the results of our voting. And it was a nice way to meet up in the 4 o’clock hour with my coworkers.

When Gardening Gone Wild’s Fran Sorin asked me to come up with a theme for this month’s contest, I looked around and thought about what I’m photographing right now. Here’s what I wrote her:
Summer is ending, and I’ve been racing around the gardens storing up spots of color before it is officially autumn. Oh, the lettuce will be germinating soon and my fall flowers will be blooming, but I’m not quite ready to let go of the summer.
Since it’s such a gloomy day on the east coast, I thought I’d show you this photo from our gardens last September. See, saving all that color helps on a rainy day.
